Paris

Paris is the capital of the country of France. It is located in the north of France on the Seine River and in the center of the Ile-de-France region, which is also called the Paris Region. The population in the administrative area is around 2167994, and around ten million in the urban areas. Home to twelve million people, the metropolitan area has a very high population and ranks among other highly populated areas of Europe.

Paris is has been an important location for a period lasting more than two millennia. It is a major cultural and business center of the world. It has made an influence in various sectors including art, media, politics, entertainment, science, education, and fashion. All this has made it one of the major global cities of the world. Paris contributes more than twenty five percent of the country’s GDP (gross domestic product). It also plays the host for numerous international organizations including the ICC, UNESCO, the Paris Club, and the OECD.

Another important sector of the economy in Paris is its tourism industry. It is a highly popular tourist location and more than thirty million people come here every year. The major attractions are the numerous famous institutions which are located here, as well as the parks and iconic monuments.

The climate of Paris is influenced by the North Atlantic Current which gives it an oceanic climate. The temperature as a result of this influence is neither too high nor is it too low. The average annual temperature is around fifteen degrees centigrade (maximum) or seven degrees centigrade (minimum). Rainfall in Paris is very unpredictable, and can fall during any time of the year. It does not normally snow here, but when it does it is usually in the month of January when the weather is the coldest and the covering does not last for a long time.
