Marbella belongs to the country of Spain in the region of Andalusia. The city lies close to the Mediterranean Sea and is located in the Province of Málaga. The city is inhabited by a total of hundred and sixteen thousand people. Total area occupied by Marbella is approximately 114.3 km². Marbella is a famous resort in the region of Costa del Sol.
The town serves as a tourist destination for many rich and famous people and mostly has celebrities flying in from other European countries.
There are also plenty of entertainment facilities for people and it also serves as a point for reaching other areas.
Archaeological excavations that were made in the region have linked the civilization at Marbella back to the Neolithic and Paleolithic era. The Romans called Marbella as Salduba and it was a famous city even in those times.
Muslims also conquered Marbella and during the Muslim Dominion in Spain a castle was built here which was in the form of a fortress and had surrounding strong walls. The name that it is called by now goes back to Muslim era and is originally derived from Marbil-la. This dominion ended by the re conquest of Spain in 1485 and hence forth the city has been reigned by the Spaniards.
In the year 1940 the town of Marbella was very small with merely nine hundred inhabitants. The luck of the town changed when a small village with only 900 inhabitants but this changed when Alfonso who was the heir of Prince Max Egon zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg bought the land.
He planned on developing the area as a tourist destination and 1954 marked the opening of a Hotel in the region, the first ever hotel in the town. This hotel became the destination of many European tourists and Nobilities and this led to tremendous profits for the natives as well as the investor himself.
