Springfield

Springfield is the capital city of the state of Illinois and has a total population of 116,482. The state is located on a total area of 60.3 sq miles or 156 kilometer square. It is also the county seat of the County of Sangamon. The metropolitan area alone comprises of 205,000. The counties included in the Metropolitan area include the Menard County and Sangamon County.

The city of Springfield was named in the past as Calhoun. The name was based after John C. Calhoun who was a Vice President. Later on the city was renamed Springfield. The most eminent people ever born and raised in the city include the famous Abraham Lincoln.

Springfield is renowned for its cuisines as well the development that art has under gone in the city. Performing arts including jazz, ballet and a carillon festival are celebrated with zest by the people of Springfield.

The city is an enigma of historical events and some of these are represented by the rich architecture of Springfield. A famous local food chain is extremely famous amongst tourists and is called Maid-Rite Sandwich Shop.

The city comprises of flat plains with most of the land included in the country area rather than the main city. The city also has a central huge lake created by the people for beauty and recreation. The lake is one of the most famous picnic spots of the city of Springfield. There are massive thunderstorms in Springfield. In the summers and the climate as well as weather is typical of a Midwestern city.

Springfield has been the abode of many baseball leagues and the city celebrates the game heartily. Many league franchises are located in the city. One of the most eminent clubs ever opened in the city was the indoor football team called Springfield Stallions. These represented the city in the Prairie Capital Convention Center in the year 2007.
