Maryland

Maryland is one of the states of the United States of America and is located in the region of the middle part of the Atlantic. The state was famous for cultivation of tobacco and was known in olden days as the Chesapeake Bay Colony. The state was one of the most dominating one in terms of slave labor and remained one for a long time. The total population of the state of Maryland is approximately 5,600,388 and it is on number 19th amongst all the states of the United States of America in terms of population. The once famous state for slave labor is currently the richest state of the United States of America with an average household income of US$65,144. It has defeated New Jersey in this regard and is prospering by leaps and bounds. The state was on number seven amongst those who ratified the Constitution of the United States of America and is also known as the Old Line state. The state has enjoyed many events because of its location near the border and has contributed to the history of the United States of America whole heartedly.

The culture of Maryland is a mixture with the Southern culture pre dominant in the Eastern zone as well as the Southern areas whereas the Northern culture pre dominant in the Baltimore City and surrounding areas. The state of Maryland developed not only economically but also in terms of science and technology and has many leading institutions within its heart. The most eminent of these is the John Hopkins University and the John Hopkins Hospital which is the leading medical university worldwide.
