Montana is one of the states of the United States of America that is located in the Northwestern Pacific zone. The state belongs to the region of Great Plains and is spread on a total area of147, 165 sq miles. The state of Montana ranks on number 4 amongst all the states of the United States of America in terms of area occupied. The landscape of Montana comprises of mountain ranges dominant in the middle and the western parts of the state. The mountains are a total of seventy seven and hence it is called the state of Montana. The Rocky Mountains that form that state are called Montana in the Spanish language and from these comes the name of the state of Montana. It is also called by the names of Land of Shining Mountains, the last best place, Treasure State and Big Sky Country. The state has a limited number of inhabitants and is ranked on number 44 amongst all the states of the United States of America. It has the third lowest population density compared to the rest of the states and has a total population of 997,195.
Montana’s economy is largely dependent on agriculture and mining. The state is blessed with many natural resources including mineral and hence mineral and lumber extraction are major businesses indulged in by the residents of Montana.

The state was inhabited initially by the Native Americans and they were divided into many groups including the Cheyenne located primarily in the south eastern region, Gros Ventres in the areas of the north as well as central parts and Crow in the south central parts of Montana.
The state was included in the union in the year 1889 on the 8th of November and was on number 41 amongst the accepted states.
