The state of Nevada is one of the states of the United States of America and is situated in the western region of the country. Las Vegas is the largest city of the state of Nevada, and Carson City is the capital. A huge number of silver deposits were found in Nevada and were also mined, and because of this the state was given the nickname The Silver State. The state became a part of the Union in the year 1864, and became the thirty sixth state to do so. This happened during the American Civil War when it joined the side of the Union, and this is depicted by a phrase on the flag of the state; it says Battle Born. The Mormon Station was the first settlement in Nevada.

The state of Nevada extends from the Mojave Desert which is in the south to the Great Basin which is in the north. It has the status of being ranked seventh with respect to size among all the other states of the United States of America. a number of different civilian and military jurisdictions of the United States Federal Government own around eighty six percent of the land of the state. According to figures collected in the year 2006, the state was home to around 2.6 million people. A majority of this population, that is more than eighty five percent, lived in the metropolitan areas which are situated near Reno and Las Vegas. Some of the reasons why Nevada is very well known is the fact that gambling is legal, as are the brothels in certain counties, and that the divorce and marriage proceedings are very easy.

In the year 2006, estimates state that the state product was equal to a hundred and seventeen billion dollars. People from all over the world visit Lake Tahoe, Reno, Las Vegas, and other resort areas. In the year 2005 the per capita income was equal to 46108 dollars.
