New Mexico

The state of New Mexico is one of the states of the United States of America and is situated in the south western part of the country. The state was once a part of Mexico, but is currently a United States territory. Native Americans used to live in New Mexico, and it was also a part of the vice royalty of the Imperial Spanish of New Spain. Of all the other states of the United States of America, it is New Mexico which has the highest number of Hispanic Americans living here. They are both the descendants of the colonists of Spain and the immigrants who have recently entered the country. With respect to the percentage of Native Americans who live here, New Mexico ranks third among all the other states. The top two are Alaska and Oklahoma. And with respect to the number of Native Americans who live here New Mexico ranks fifth among all the other states of the country. The top four are California, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Texas. The Navajo and the Pueblo people mostly comprise the tribes which live here. Because of this population structure, the culture of the state is strongly influenced by America Indian, Mexican, and Spanish cultures.

The official language of the state of New Mexico is English, but because of the fact that Spanish is used to a major extent by the people living here, it is considered to be a secondary official language. According to figures collected in the year 2000, around twenty nine percent of the people who are more than five years of age speak Spanish, and around four percent speak Navajo.

The total state product in the year 2003 of the state of New Mexico amounted to fifty seven billion dollars, and in the same year the per capita personal income amounted to $24995¸ which makes the state rank forty eighth among all the other states of the country.
