Vermont is one of the states in the New England region of the United States of America. It is located in the northeastern part of the country and the state ranks 45 amongst all other states with a total area of 9,620 sq miles or 24,923 km². the total population of the state of Vermont is 608,827 and it ranks on number two amongst the least populous states of the United States of America with a population density of 65.8/sq mi. it ranks on number 49 amongst all the states of United States of America in terms of population. The capital city of the state of Vermont is called Montpelier. It is also the only state located in the region of New England which does not have a coastal margin with the Atlantic Ocean. The Green Mountains run from the north to south of the states of Vermont and form major part of the western border of the state. To the south of it lies Massachusetts and to the east lies New Hampshire. The state of New York lies to the west of the state of Vermont and Quebec which is a Canadian province lies in the direction of north.
The state was primarily inhabited by Abenaki and Iroquois which are two Native American tribes. The territory was then claimed by the French and later on was under the British Colonial Rule. The state was subjected to hostility from the neighboring states of New York and New Hampshire and eventually the Green Mountain Boys Militia won Vermont its independence. It was one of the original 13 states to have joined the union after being independent for almost one and a half decade as the Independent Vermont Republic.
The most populous city of the state of Vermont is called Burlington which also includes the largest Metropolitan area of the state.
