Virginia

The Commonwealth of Virginia is a state in the southern part of the United States of America and is situated in the Atlantic Coast. It is the 12th most populous state in the United States of America and has a total population of over 7.7 million. The total area of the state is approximately 42,774 sq miles or 110,785 km² and it ranks on number 35 amongst all the states of the United States of America. The state is named after the Queen of England Queen Elizabeth I who was called as the Virgin Queen.

The state has many nicknames including the Mother of Presidents because it was the birthplace of many presidents of the United States of America.

The present day Virginia can be traced back to the formation of Virginia Colony in the year 1607 by the Virginia Company of London. The economy of the state has revolved around farming, slavery as well as the colonial rule that has dominated over the region fro centuries. This was one of the first colonies of the British in the states and also became one of the prime thirteen colonies who took part in the American Revolution. The state became the center of the confederation in the American civil war. The capital city of the state is called Richmond while the most populated city of the state of the Commonwealth of Virginia is the Virginia Beach. The state has played a vital part in the politics of the United States of America and is a prime state during elections for all the important political parties. The government of the state of Virginia is said to have the highest efficiency rates amongst all the states of the United States of America.

Median income of the state is about $53,275 and it ranks on number ten amongst all the other states.
