All these cities are independent cities. The region is known as Virginia Beach Norfolk Newport News, and the city of Virginia Beach belongs to the eastern part of the Seven Cities of Hampton Roads.

One of the reasons why Virginia Beach is so famous is because of its status of a resort. There are miles and miles of beaches in the city, as well as a multitude of hotels, restaurants, and motels which have been built along the land which borders the ocean. The East Coast Surfing Championship is held here every year. Other than beaches, there are numerous parks belonging to the state, beach areas which are under protection, many large companies, historic sites, three military bases, and two universities which are present in the city. It was on April 26 in the year 1607 when the English colonists who were going to Jamestown first landed. They landed on Cape Henry, which is positioned where the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay meet. The beach is so long that it is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as being the longest.
