West Virginia

West Virginia is one of the states of the United States of America. The state is situated in the upland south part of the country and has been an establishment since the 10th of June 1863. The state expands on a total area of 24,230 sq miles or 62,755 km² and ranks on number 41 compared to all the states of the United States of America in terms of occupied land. The total population of the region is approximately 1,808,344 and the ranking within the U.S.A is number 37. The state was formerly included in the state of Virginia and the American Civil War resulted in the separation of the two and formation of a state by the name of West Virginia.

The birth of the state is celebrated each year as the West Virginia Day and along with Nevada this is the only state that resulted post American Civil War. From the moments of its creation the state of West Virginia went down in remarkable words in the history of the United States of America. The state is till date known as the Civil War Border State as the boundaries of the state are a matter of dispute in terms of geography. Major part of the state of West Virginia is said to be incorporated in the south part of the United States of America beyond the Mason-Dixon line, however some part of West Virginia encroaches upon the states of Pennsylvania and Ohio. The various geographical locations of the state are thus Appalachia, Northwestern, Upland South, Midwestern United States, and Southeastern United States.

The natives of the state are called West Virginians and their loyalty and recognition varies by the location they reside in. The state is solely served the Appalachia Region Commission. The largest as well as capital city of the state of West Virginia is called Charleston and it also includes the biggest metropolitan area of the state.
